Our Comenius Christmas

Hi Everybody! We are getting really excited about Christmas this year because it is our first 'Comenius Christmas!' We have received cards from Hungary(thank you very much for you cards. They were lovely!) and Belgium( Your cards were beautiful too! We enjoy looking at them) We sent our Christmas cards to Denmark, Belgium, Hungary and the Czech Republic yesterday. We can't wait to get your Christmas cards!

Some Christmas News from Ireland:
Our Christmas Concert was on the 5th of December. We had lots of fun. Mrs. Stephens' class did some Sean-Nós dancing, Irish Dancing, French Songs, An Irish Poem, An Irish Song, we played an instrument called the Tin Whistle and other instruments called the accordion, fiddle and the keyboard and a play called 'Mind the Trains'. Mrs. Coynes class did the Nativity play and some Christmas Poems.

In Ireland, the 8th of December is the first day of Christmas and a day that most families go shopping. We had a day off school because it is also a holy day called 'The Immaculate Conception'. The feast of the Immaculate Conception celebrates the apperaance of the Angel Gabriel to Mary. Our Teacher, Concepta was named after the Immaculate Conception. so her birthday is this month

In school, we have a Christmas Tree decorated with baubles and tinsel. We also have an Advent Wreath. Every day we light the candles at religion. On the first Sunday of December, we light the first purple candle. In school, we light that purple candle until the second Sunday of December, when we light the second Purple candle. Then in school we light that candle too.
It is a really exciting period. We learn about Christmas traditions araound the world so please add yours.

Our Christmas holidays begin on the 23rd of December. So A very Happy Christmas to you all! Nollaig Shona!
