Report on project meeting in Esbjerg

Report from the Comenius meeting in Esbjerg.
October 9th 2008.

Present at the meeting were:
From Belgium: Lieve, Patsy and Nadine.
From Hungary: Pal, Edit and Anna.
From Czech Republic: Veronica, Hana and Zuzana.
From Ireland: Cepta. (Mothers?)
From Denmark: Anna-Grethe, Anne, Lise, Helene, Ruth, Tordis, Trine, Marianne

As a start the main goals of the project were repeated. Then we went through the agenda.

1. What to do with the boxes:
The boxes were presented:
Hungary: CD with music, garlic, onion, red peppers, chest nut, walnut, Rubik’s cube, Vitamin C (pills invented in Hungary), biro.
Czech Republic: Coin, ginger bread, questions, malt, hop.
Belgium: The boxes will be sent later.
Ireland: Turf, tweed, seaweed, marble, shells, wool, recipe, harp, collage, pony, quiz, CD with Irish folk-music and a DVD with a dance instruction.
Denmark: Sand, mussels, amber, a small bottle with oil, a viking ship, a lego brick, heather and other things.
Bring all the boxes to a class, show the things from one box, and let the students guess from which country the things are. Continue with the next box.
2. The quiz
We are supposed to take the quiz to the classes, perhaps together with the boxes.
3. How do we get answers on the questions?
Answers on questions can be sent together with the Christmas cards or as e-mails.
4. The rotation way for the travelling animal and the story to go with it.
Mascots:
Belgium brought a dog “Lewie” because the headmaster (Lieve) brings her dog to school every day.
Hungary brought a frog because it looked funny
Czech Republic brought a mole “Krtek” from a famous national cartoon
Ireland brought a sheep”Blarney Bubbles” because there are many sheep in the area, and Blarney is a place in Ireland.
Denmark brought a seal called “Speedy”, because of the Sealarium and the amount of seals in the area.
The mascots were exchanged and will be passed on as follows:
Dog(Belgium)-Hungary- Czech Republic-Ireland-Denmark-Belgium
Frog(Hungary)- Czech Republic-Ireland-Denmark-Belgium-Hungary
Mole(Czech Republic)- Ireland-Denmark-Belgium-Hungary- Czech Republic
Sheep(Ireland)- Denmark-Belgium-Hungary- Czech Republic-Ireland
Seal(Denmark)- Belgium-Hungary- Czech Republic-Ireland- Denmark
Each mascot has a story to be continued by the students at the school, which it arrives to. The story will be passed along with each mascot every time we meet, next time in Belgium.
5. The scrap book of the animal.
Each mascot has its own scrapbook telling about the different places it goes to. The mascot can tell about the school, a student’s home, the town, the country or what we like to tell about.
6. The study of the weather on the first day of the month.
Study the weather in all five countries once a month. Cepta has a link to a good web-side. Patsy gave us a copy of a nice page, she made for the students.
7. Deadline for the students’ presentation posters.
The presentations from the children involved in the project have to be finished, so that we can bring them with us, when we meet in Belgium February 3rd -7th. The presentations should not be copied, but each school will divide them into four equal parts, so that each school will get ¼ of the presentations.
8. Deadline for the Christmas cards. How many are we going to send?
Deadline for sending the Christmas cards is December 12th. At the same time answers for the questions from the students can be sent along with the Christmas cards, or the answers can be sent as e-mails. We decide ourselves how many Christmas cards we will send to each school.
9. The logo competition.
All the students can participate in a logo-competition. The best will be chosen in Belgium, when we meet there. Size app. 21cm x 21 cm. A small prize will be given to the pupil, who made the winning logo.
10. Evaluation of the project until now.
It was very bad for Ireland, that they got the approval of the project very late. When we know the time for meetings very early, we can buy cheaper tickets.
11. Meeting in Belgium.
Next meeting will be in Belgium from February 3rd – 7th.
12. Any other business:
We decided already now that the meeting in Ireland will be May 12th-17th 2009. (week 20) Further information on the webside.
13. Web page.
Cepta showed us, how the web page is working.
